Christo Grozev

Christo Grozev is lead Russia investigator with Bellingcat, the independent investigative collective of researchers, investigators, and citizen journalists who share open-source research to expose the truth about war, human rights abuses, and the criminal underworld. His work focuses on security threats, extraterritorial clandestine operations, and the weaponisation of information.

Grozev’s investigations into the identity of the suspects in the 2018 Novichok poisonings in the UK earned him and his team the 2019 European Press Prize Investigative Reporting Award. In Unmasking the Salisbury Poisoning Suspects: A Four-Part Investigation, they identified the perpetrators of the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal. He also featured in the 2022 documentary Navalny, which covered the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The film won the 2023 Oscar for Best Documentary and the 2023 Best Documentary BAFTA. In 2022, Grozev and Bellingcat were the recipients of the International Center for Journalists’ Innovation in International Reporting Award.
