Dennis Kwok
Human Rights Lawyer and former Hong Kong Lawmaker
From 2012 to 2020, Dennis Kwok was elected as the member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council representing the Hong Kong legal profession. The main policy areas that he focused on included access to justice, human rights protection, and the independence of the judiciary.
Throughout his time in office and thereafter, Kwok actively engaged in international advocacy work for Hong Kong’s democratic movement. He left Hong Kong in 2020, and was subsequently appointed as a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School and as a Distinguished Scholar at Georgetown University.
In recognition of his work in defending freedom and the rule of law, Kwok has received multiple awards, including the 2021 Commonwealth Law Conference Rule of Law Award from the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and the Distinction in International Law and Affairs Award from the New York State Bar Association (International Section). As a result of his international advocacy work, the Hong Kong government has put out an arrest warrant and a HK$1 million bounty for his arrest.
