Eliot Higgins
Founder and Creative Director, Bellingcat
Eliot Higgins is the founder and creative director of Bellingcat, a multi-award-winning investigative collective of researchers, investigators, and citizen journalists focused on online open-source investigation. He is also the director of Bellingcat Productions BV, the organisation’s production company, and the author of The Sunday Times bestseller We Are Bellingcat.
He rose to prominence during the early stages of the conflict in Syria through his Brown Moses Blog, where he analysed open-source images being shared online from the conflict. His notable investigations include identifying the types of munitions being used by the Syrian Air Force, including cluster munitions and improvised “barrel bombs”, and revealing the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government.
He launched Bellingcat in 2014 to provide a place for readers to learn how to conduct their own open-source investigations and contribute investigative work. The website is widely recognised as leading the development of the use of online open-source investigation.
