Geordie Greig
Editor-in-Chief, The Independent

Geordie Greig has been editor-in-chief at The Independent since 2023 and is the only journalist to have edited five national publications.
Starting as a cub reporter in one of the poorest London boroughs, he has been a relentless campaigner against many injustices and in support of philanthropic causes. He has made a notable contribution to British journalism as a reporter, editor, and campaigner, with a reputation for being prepared to stand up for what he believes even in the face of career risk. As editor of The Mail on Sunday, he backed Remain when the Daily Mail was pro-Brexit. Later, when he became editor of the Daily Mail, he was critical of Boris Johnson’s premiership, which was a factor in Johnson being forced to leave Number 10.
He is the author of The King Maker, the story of the friendship between George VI and Greig’s grandfather, and Breakfast with Lucian, an acclaimed biography of the artist Lucian Freud.
