Christo Grozev

Christo Grozev is the lead investigator for The Insider and Der Spiegel. The Insider is a Russia-focused, independent media outlet, committed to investigative journalism and debunking fake news. Its accolades include the Council of Europe Democracy Innovation Award, European Press Prize, and Free Media Award. Der Spiegel is Germany’s leading news magazine and website, focusing on in-depth investigations. 

In his previous role at Bellingcat, Grozev investigated the identity of the suspects in the 2018 Novichok poisonings in the UK, which earned him and his team the 2019 European Press Prize Investigative Reporting Award. In Unmasking the Salisbury Poisoning Suspects: A Four-Part Investigation, they identified the perpetrators of the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal. He also featured in the 2022 documentary Navalny, which covered the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny. The film won the 2023 Oscar for Best Documentary and the 2023 Best Documentary BAFTA. In 2022, Grozev and Bellingcat were the recipients of the International Center for Journalists’ Innovation in International Reporting Award.
