Before joining Reuters, Lori Hinnant reported for the Associated Press from 16 countries, including coverage of the Arab Spring and wars in Ukraine, Iraq, and Afghanistan. For her work in Ukraine, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of the fall of the city of Mariupol, along with the George Polk Award for war reporting, the Anthony Shadid Award for ethics in journalism, and the Investigative Reporters and Editors Philip Meyer Journalism Award. The Mariupol series became the Oscar- and BAFTA-winning documentary 20 Days in Mariupol. She was a contributing writer for the Sundance Award-winning film 2,000 Meters to Andriivka. She was a 2020 finalist for the James Foley Medill Medal for Courage, and she received Overseas Press Club awards in 2020 for her work in North Africa, and in 2017 and 2018 for her work in Iraq.
Before becoming a reporter, she was based in New York as a senior editor on the international desk. She started her career as a reporter in California and New Jersey.
