Samia Nakhoul

Samia Nakhoul has been global foreign policy editor for Reuters since 2023. She began her career in 1987 reporting on the civil war in Lebanon, and has led the coverage of events including the toppling of five Arab presidents, the Syrian civil war, the Beirut port explosion in 2020, the latest Israeli-Hamas war, the dismantling of Lebanon’s Hezbollah military structure, and the ousting of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. 

Nakhoul won Reuters Scoop of the Year for breaking the news that former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was captured with his son and then later killed. Her special report on the secret plan to take Tripoli was also recognised as a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Her exclusive special report from Egypt in 1992 on an Islamist state-within-a-state in the Cairo slum of Imbaba won international acclaim.

Her numerous accolades include the Chevalier dans l’Ordre National du Mérite, the Reuters Baron Award, and the 2021 Laureate for the Women in News Editorial Leadership Award from the World Association of News Publishers.
